GET THIS EFFING ORGAN OUT OF ME!

17 March 2010

Good news or bad news first?

Being sick has definite ups and downs.
The ups are things like Vicodin and feeling somewhat better.
The downs are things like hospital bills, missing work and still being stuck with an internal organ that's failing me.
It looks as though Project Access, a program through Buncombe County's Medical Society may be able to help.
However, the bills from my first ER trip came in today, totaling over $1,600 just for the one trip. Add in the bills we haven't seen yet from the second trip and what I'll owe on my surgery and SHEESH, it feels like I'm buried under all this mess.
Next on the list: calling Heath Shuler to give him a piece of my mind.

  1. if i may suggest....

many hospitals have a program - sometimes referred to as "charity care" for which low income peeps can apply. they will sometimes reduce the amount of your bill, reward you for paying in full with a nice discount, or cover your bill altogether.

amy had to go to the er for her asthma, uninsured, and they covered her $1000+ bill. :)

    checkitout, mang!

  2. however - if you want to know more, you should make inquiry soon, as there are often 30day-ish time frames for applying for this sort of thing. :)

  3. ER bills are the worst. Even when I /had/ insurance, I'd wait to go to Urgent Care over a trip to the ER (though I don't know off-hand if they even take anyone without insurance).
